Quando a ignorância é sinônimo
de sabedoria: O que falta ainda para que o povo perca de vez a paciência com
esses larápios engravatados e parta para a ignorância?
124. The quality of mercy is
not strained
Tradução:
A qualidade da clemência não é forçada
Significado:
O gesto de misericórdia é maior se for espontâneo.
Fonte: The Merchant of Venice, Ato
IV, cena 1
Portia: The quality of mercy is not
strain'd,
It droppeth as the gentle rain
from heaven
Upon the place beneath: it is
twice blest,
It blesseth him that gives and him that takes,
'Tis mightiest in the mightiest, it becomes
The throned monarch better than his crown.
It blesseth him that gives and him that takes,
'Tis mightiest in the mightiest, it becomes
The throned monarch better than his crown.
Pórcia: A
qualidade da clemência não é forçada,
Ela cai como a doce chuva do céu
No chão aqui embaixo. Ela é duplamente abençoada:
Abençoa aquele que a concede e aquele que a recebe.
É o que há de mais poderoso entre os poderosos e se
ajusta
Ao monarca no trono melhor do que sua coroa.
Exemplo moderno: The quality of mercy is strained
“Dad, do you have to
say sorry only if you get found out?”… When you hear a question like that as a
parent, it’s easy to panic and instantly assume the worst! What’s been smashed,
which child is unconscious, what’s happened to my iPad? But trust me, it’s even
worse when you’re a vicar because they might just be testing you to see if
you’ve got your theology right! Forgiveness, reconciliation, mercy, new
beginnings… we’ve got that all sorted as Christians, haven’t we?
This April, England is
gearing up to celebrate 400 years of the legacy of our most famous playwright,
William Shakespeare. Born in Stratford-upon-Avon in 1564, he was baptized and
raised in Holy Trinity Church and later attended several churches in London as
a playwright and actor. In later life, upon retiring to Stratford, he became
lay rector and was buried near the altar of the church. (http://widcombe.church, 15 April 2016)
