49. Frailty, thy name is woman
Tradução:
Fragilidade,
teu nome é mulher.
Significado:
A mulher é inconstante.
Fonte: Hamlet,
Ato I, cena 2
Hamlet:
Heaven and earth!
Must I remember? why, she would hang on him,
Must I remember? why, she would hang on him,
As
if increase of appetite had grown
By what it fed on: and yet, within a month--
By what it fed on: and yet, within a month--
Let
me not think on't--Frailty, thy name is woman!--
Hamlet: Céu e terra!
Preciso
recordar? Vivia a ele agarrada,
Como
se seu apetite aumentasse
À
medida que se satisfazia! e mesmo assim, ao fim de um mês...
Não
quero pensar nisto!... Fragilidade, teu nome é mulher!...
Exemplo moderno: Frailty, thy name is not woman. Thy
name, in truth, is man.
With
apologies to William shakespeare, who said in great dramatic flourish and
rhetoric in the play Hamlet “Frailty, thy name is woman!”, I have to disagree
with him, at least today being Women’s
Day! It is one of the memorable expressions from that play and has over the
years become proverbial. (Star of my Sore,
