entre centenas de livros que tenho nas minhas estantes, um Dictionary of Quotations, (publicado pela Chambers e editado por
Nigel Rees, do qual passo a transcrever, sem tradução, algumas citações que me
pareceram curiosas. Umas são surpreendentes; outras, ferinas. Há de tudo um
pouco:
1.
Anonymous:
Don’t tell my mother I’m
in politics – she thinks I play the piano in a whorehouse.
2.
Anonymous:
I know why the sun never
sets on the British Empire: God wouldn’t trust an Englishman in the dark.
3.
Anonymous:
Capitalism is the
exploitation of man by man. Communism is the complete opposite.
4.
Anonymous:
Most people enjoy the
sight of their handwriting as they enjoy the smell of ther own farts.
5.
Austin, Warren R. (US diplomat):
Jews and Arabs should
settle their differences like good Christians.
6.
Barrie, J. M. (British playwright):
I know I’m not clever but
I’m always right.
7.
‘Beachcomber’ (J. B. Morton - British
humorist)
Justice must not not only
be seen to be done but has to be seen to be believed.
8.
Beecham, Sir Thomas (British
orchestral conductor, to a man called ‘Ball’):
Ball...how very singular.
9.
Bell, H. E. (British University
administrator):
Parents are the very last
people who ought to be allowed to have children.
10.
Bentley, Nicolas (British cartoonist and
writer, of Hery Campbell Bannerman):
He is remembered chiefly
as the man about whom all is forgotten.
