Quando iniciei esta série de Fake News, minha intenção era fazer graça com o que acontece no dia a dia do país. Mas as autoridades – todas, sem exceção – são tão engraçadas, tão ridiculamente falsas, que senti que não dá pra competir com elas. São presidentes que não presidem, comandantes que não comandam, ministros que não têm verbas, juízes que não conhecem as leis, corruptos da mais variada espécie a corroer as finanças de nosso pobre e infeliz país. Recolho-me, pois, ao meu cantinho e fico apenas com minhas ‘aulinhas’ de inglês.

140. Correção: Neither I nor my friends were aware that that would be our last evening together.(Neither...nor + substantivo plural = verbo no plural.)

141. Neither I nor my wife were aware that that would be our last evening together.

141. Correção: Neither I nor my wife was aware that that would be our last evening together.(O verbo que se usa depois de neither...nor depende normalmente do segundo elemento: se for singular, o verbo em geral ficará no singular; se for plural, verbo no plural.)

142. It was his arrogance that really made me nervous.

142. Correção: It was his arrogance that really irritated me. (Nervous: nervoso, inquieto, assustado, mas não no sentido de irritado. Quando uma pessoa fica nervosa, pê da vida, quando por exemplo ouve um monte de asneira, ela não fica nervous, ela fica irritated, annoyed, pissed off.)

143. Nobody never taught Picasso how to draw, which is easy to realize when you look at his paintings.

143. Correção: Nobody ever taught Picasso how to draw, which is easy to realize when you look at his paintings.(Nobody ever; nobody never não existe.)

144. What are fake news? Completely false information, photos or videos purposefully created and spread to confuse or misinform.

144. (Correção: What is fake news? Completely false information, photos or videos purposefully created and spread to confuse or misinform. (News é um substantivo singular.)

145. Excuse me, can you tell me where the nearest post office is? (The next: o próximo [numa sequência]; the nearest: o próximo [em distância]
