Nós - Igino e eu - não temos temos nada a ver com aquela dinheirama toda. Aliás, faz anos que não visitamos a Bahia.

We’ve all heard the phrase “to vanish into thin air.” It means to disappear completely from sight or existence.

But if you vanish into thin air, where do you go? And are things actually … thinner there?

Let’s find out.

The American Heritage Dictionary of Idioms describes this term as using “the rarified atmosphere above the earth as a metaphor for an unknown location.”

And the air above the earth is rarified. It’s less dense than the air down here. In fact, 89% of the gases that cushion the earth are in the lowest two levels of our atmosphere—what are called the troposphere and stratosphere. The gases in the top three levels, in contrast, are spread out over a vast area. In other words, the air really is thin up there.

I believe that it’s this exact question that either motivates or stops every entrepreneur each day as they sit down to work.

O verbete acima saiu do meu dicionário inglês-português, publicado pela FTD em 2006. O que ele está fazendo aqui? Explico:

Eu moro perto do Parque Trianon, aqui na Paulista, e costumo (ou costumava, antes dos carcinomas da vida se abaterem sobre mim) caminhar ali. Ao longo das aleias (!), várias placas rudimentares, escritas a mão, advertem: DO NOT ENTER IN THE WOODS.

Incomodado com aquela indevida preposição, fui até a secretaria do parque comunicar o erro e mostrar que ‘enter’ dispensa o ‘in’. Isso foi há dois anos. Voltei lá esses dias. As placas são novinhas, mas o erro permanece.  

Sem falar nos erros de português. mas isso é assunto para um próximo post.
